The seat belt pretensioner is designed to deploy by an explosive charge. An internal mechanism has a piston that is forced in, pulling a slack of belt in and the passenger or driver wearing the seat belt into their seat. This happens in a split of a second during a crash. Just like a bullet. This illustration shows the basics:
The gas charge is indeed a pyrotechnic device that is responsible for the deployment of the pretensioner. Here at Safety Restore we will replace the pyrotechnic device with a brand new one that is certified and will be ready for deployment. This means if your car is ever involved in a crash or collision, the repaired seat belt pretensioner will work like new. In fact, we have quite some astonishing stories from our friends in law enforcement that were on the scene of various accidents where the cars had our rebuilt seat belt pretensioners installed and they worked as promised. Here is one review below:
Load limiters in seat belt pretensioners are designed to stabilize impact and prevent injury or death caused by seat belts. This may seem ironic, but when high speed is involved, the fabric of the seat belt and the airbag deployment can create chaos. That is why some manufacturers have implemented load limits in their pretensioners making it a breakthrough combo for the safety aspect in a vehicle. Most load limiters are done in a form of sewn fold fabric right into the seat belt webbing material that breaks at certain speed and force to create a gradual transition of the occupant buckled up being pulled away into their seat and away from the airbag. While the NHTSA has released some great data regarding the effectiveness of the load limiters (NHTSA.org report) they are only as strong as their weakest points. Even a small fracture or frayed webbing can make this all useless. That is why we highly recommend that every driver, passenger and owner of any salvage car rebuilder always check the condition of the seat belt fabric material known as the webbing.
Airbag Light Reset
In addition to repairing your seat belt pretensioner, you may need to reset your airbag light if you have crash data stored. This is different from soft codes that can be reset using an airbag OBD scan tool. Crash data is usually stored if the crash is severe and/or the airbags deploy. Crash data removal wil require you to remove the SRS airbag module out of your vehicle and mail it in for a full reset and reporgramming.

The seat belt webbing is perhaps the most popular part of the seat belt, given that it is always visible and what we handle to buckle up. From years of usage, it does get worn out and starts to get frayed. If you drive with a dog or a puppy, they tend to chew on the seat belts destroying the webbing completely. This poses a serious risk as the seat belts may no longer be effective during a crash. Brand new seat belts at the dealer cost a pretty penny so seat belt replacement seems like something most put away. Especially if it’s more than just one seat belt. We offer an affordable seat belt webbing replacement service for all frayed, ripped, cut, turn, worn out, aged, old and dog chewed seat belts. For only $74.99 we can replace your seat belt webbing with a color of your choice or match your existing color. Using state of the art automated sewing machines to replicate original stitching patterns!
This also goes for all the classic car collectors out there and antique lovers. Even car enthusiasts can revamp their interior with custom colors! Check it out: CUSTOM COLOR SEAT BELTS
